Governance

The Clerc Center is co-led by the interim Chief Academic Officer and the Chief Administrative Officer. Both individuals serve as members of President Cordano's Executive Team.

Both co-leaders oversee the Clerc Center Senior Leadership Team (SLT). Visit the SLT web page for the full membership list and refer to the organization chart. The purpose and responsibilities of the SLT include:

  • Institutional oversight and planning
  • Review and approval of policies and processes
  • Advising the co-leaders on executive decisions

The Clerc Center also sponsors an Employee Relations Council (ERC) and has three representatives on the Gallaudet Staff Council (GSC) whom are independently nominated and elected.

  • ERC: Facilitates the resolution of employee concerns and reviews and implements employee suggestions. The ERC includes representatives from demonstration schools and departments at the Clerc Center and has two co-chairs, one teacher and one staff. The ERC reports to the co-leaders.

  • GSC: Advises the University president on matters affecting the staff community. Members serve on institutional committees, review and provide input on policies and procedures which pertain to, or impact on, staff. Participates in the dispute resolution process by serving as the panel which hears staff grievances. The GSC reports directly to the president.

Shared governance is based on the principles of partnership, equity, and accountability. The intended result is a culturally sensitive and empowering work environment that enables sustainable and accountability-based engagement.
