The roles and their responsibilities are detailed below.

GSC CHAIR

  • Preside over all meetings of the GSC;
  • Provide visible and assertive leadership in representing the legitimate interests of the GSC;
  • Serve as spokesperson on the interests of the GSC;
  • Serve as the GSC’s liaison to the Board and attend their meetings, as appropriate, and bring reports of such activities to the GSC;
  • Develop a master calendar of all regularly or specially scheduled meetings of GSC with support of the Vice Chair and the Secretary;
  • Cast the tie-breaking vote as needed;
  • Appoint a Parliamentarian for the year with the approval of the Executive Committee;
  • Create and appoints members of ad hoc committees;
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of all committees;
  • Cannot serve more than two (2) consecutive terms;
  • Ensures that the GSC Bylaws are being followed diligently; and
  • Upon completion of term, the previous Chair will shadow the new Chair for a period not to exceed ninety (90) days for the purpose of providing advice and consultation. 

GSC SECRETARY

  • Prepare an agenda for all meetings of the GSC and distribute that agenda a full seven (7) business days before meetings;
  • Record the minutes of each meeting of the GSC; including attendance by name;
  • Be able to vote during Council of Representatives meetings;
  • Prepare and distribute the minutes to all members of the GSC no later than seven (7) business days after the meetings;
  • Ensure that an updated list of members meeting the definition as set forth in Article IV, Number 1, of the GSC Bylaws is available prior to the start of any GSC meeting;
  • Ensure that communication between and among the Executive Committee and staff is open and frequent;
  • Cannot serve more than two (2) consecutive terms; and
  • Ensure that the GSC Bylaws are being followed diligently. 

GSC REPRESENTATIVE

  • Represent the interests of their division;
  • Attend Council of Representatives and University Staff meetings;
  • Support the Executive Committee in any capacity;
  • Communicate with division employees about the GSC on a regular basis;
  • Serve on at least one GSC standing committee during their term;
  • Cannot serve more than three (3) consecutive terms; and
  • Ensure that the GSC Bylaws are being followed diligently.
