A total of 600+ staff members at Gallaudet University and Clerc Center dedicate their time and effort to ensure the students' experience on campus are exemplary.  This may not be a easy feat for certain staff members who performed above and beyond their expected duties.  Each year, some staff members stand out and deserve to be recognized and one of many ways to recognize them is to nominate them for awards.  Nominate a staff member or two if you can! 

The Gallaudet Staff Council will be presenting Staff Awards to qualified staff members within the Gallaudet community. Any staff, as defined in Section 4.01.1.A in the Administration and Operations Manual, can be nominated. All nominations may come from supervisors, faculty, staff, and students.

 

Prizes for each category include:

  • Monetary prize: $750
  • Polo t-shirt
  • Award plaque
  • Campus-wide recognition

Nominations can be done in two ways:

When nominating someone, please choose one category.  The four categories for the 2018-2019 academic year are as follows:

  • Gallaudet Citizen Staff Award
  • True Buff and Blue Staff Award
  • Bison Sage Staff Award
  • Gallaudet Lifetime Achievement Staff Award

Each nomination will require (if available) the following:

  • Basic background information of the nominee:
    • Full name
    • Department
    • Job title
    • Years of employment, and
    • The category they are being nominated for
  • Stories of the nominee’s accomplishments - no accomplishment is too big or too small
  • Justifications for the nomination: why do you feel that this person should be considered?
  • List of various training, workshops, seminars, or involvement with organizations within the Gallaudet community
 
 
Each category's nomination criteria are listed below:
 
 
Gallaudet Citizen Staff Award

This award is given to a staff member who contributed in a small, humble, and meaningful way to their department, their peers, and/or the Gallaudet community.

Staff person demonstrated a combination of the following:

  • There is no require minimum for length of employment.
  • Completed required trainings on campus such as: Title IX Part One, Title IX Part Two, Confidentiality Agreement, and Conflict of Interest Form.
  • Did something to brighten up another individual, a department or the university community.
  • Showed appreciation towards other people in the department or Gallaudet community.
  • Volunteered to assist with group activities and needs; looked for ways to contribute.
  • Very inclusive and open to individual or group.
  • Showed enthusiasm toward being a member of the group; conveyed respect and appreciation towards the talents and contributions of other individual or group.

True Buff and Blue Staff Award

This award is given to a staff member who demonstrated a positive and proactive attitude toward an institutional priority, worked well with people of diverse personalities, provided timely and professional service to internal and/or external customers (students, faculty, staff, and other constituents); and of course, transcend normal job responsibilities to achieve outstanding results.

Staff person demonstrated a combination of the following:

  • Employed between 0 to 10 years at Gallaudet University or Clerc Center.
  • Completed required trainings on campus such as Title IX Part One, Title IX Part Two, Confidentiality Agreement, and Conflict of Interest Form.
  • Completed key trainings on or off campus such as Title IX Training, Cultural Diversity Workshop, and Professional Development.
  • Demonstrated a positive and upstanding attitude on a regular basis.
  • Proactive in being heavily involved in the Gallaudet community, by getting involved with clubs, organizations, committees, seminars, workshops, etc.
  • Became a role model for others by representing Gallaudet’s values, such as inclusiveness, respect, and bilingualism to name a few.
  • Exemplified exceptional performance by exceeding beyond normal scope of work and contributing directly to the success of each task given by peers, departments, and/or organizations.

Bison Sage Staff Award

This award is presented to a staff member who consistently demonstrated outstanding performance above and beyond the normal scope of job responsibilities and achieved outstanding results; demonstrated integrity and service to the Gallaudet community; believed in a climate of respect and inclusivity of the Gallaudet community.

Staff person demonstrated a combination of the following:

  • Employed between 11 to 20+ years at Gallaudet University or Clerc Center
  • Completed required trainings on campus such as Title IX Part One, Title IX Part Two, Confidentiality Agreement, and Conflict of Interest Form.
  • Completed key trainings on or off campus such as Title IX Training, Cultural Diversity Workshop, and Professional Development.
  • Demonstrated a positive and upstanding attitude on a regular basis.
  • Proactive in being heavily involved in the Gallaudet community, by getting involved with clubs, organizations, committees, seminars, workshops, etc.
  • Became a role model for others by representing Gallaudet’s values, such as inclusiveness, respect, and bilingualism to name a few.
  • Exemplified exceptional performance by exceeding beyond normal scope of work and contributing directly to the success of each task given by peers, departments, and/or organizations.

Gallaudet Lifetime Achievement Staff Award

This award recognizes a long-serving staff member who has dedicated the majority of their professional career to providing exemplary support or service to the Gallaudet community. Often, these vital individuals are afforded little official recognition or visibility, yet dedicated, loyal, conscientious, and trustworthy over the span of many years and whose contributions have exceeded their formal title and stated duties.

Staff person demonstrated a combination of the following:

  • Employed beyond 20+ years at Gallaudet University or Clerc Center
  • Completed required trainings on campus such as Title IX Part One, Title IX Part Two, Confidentiality Agreement, and Conflict of Interest Form.
  • Completed key trainings on or off campus such as Title IX Training, Cultural Diversity Workshop, and Professional Development.
  • Demonstrated a positive and upstanding attitude on a regular basis.
  • Proactive in being heavily involved in the Gallaudet community, by getting involved with clubs, organizations, committees, seminars, workshops, etc.
  • Became a role model for others by representing Gallaudet’s values, such as inclusiveness, respect, and bilingualism to name a few.
  • Exemplified exceptional performance by exceeding beyond normal scope of work and contributing directly to the success of each task given by peers, departments, and/or organizations.
