GTS Employee of the Month for June 2017

Seung Kim, systems engineer, is the Gallaudet Technology Services (GTS) Employee of the Month for June. Seung graduated from the Aewha School for the Deaf in Seoul, South Korea, before earning his bachelor's degree from Gallaudet in mathematics and computer science. Seung then went on to complete a master's degree in networking and system administration from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He recently celebrated his ten-year anniversary as a Gallaudet employee.
Seung is primarily responsible for managing software deployment. This means that he ensures updates to software such as Microsoft Office are up to date and he manages the KACE software library which contains software that has been approved for download on university computers. He is also responsible for managing Group Policy (GPO) which sets the parameters for what users can and cannot do on university computers.

One nomination, from former colleague, Carolyn Baldwin, noted his willingness to assist and his knowledge of technology. She also cites "his patience with obtaining resolution to the situation." She goes on to say, "he has saved the day on multiple occasions!"
Another fellow GTS coworker, Jonas Scotton, commented on Seung's dedication to, "going above and beyond," to complete his work with various KACE related projects. "As he works on this, he also takes the time to assist with anything else that other teams need to reference from him. I feel that Seung is a prime example of what all employees should strive for."
Harvey Grossinger, director of Help Desk, media, and classroom technology, echoes these comments and adds that Seung was instrumental in preventing university computers from being infected by the WannaCry ransomware attack last month. His proactive approach to ongoing and timely updates and his quick response in deploying patches to still vulnerable computers helped Gallaudet avoid a potentially costly situation--financially and in loss of data.
