KACE upgrade scheduled for September 12, 2018

What is KACE?
KACE systems management provides device inventory and asset management, software distribution, patch management, and others. All managed computers (Gallaudet-owned) are required to have the KACE agent/application installed so that KACE can perform necessary updates and management of university-owned devices.

KACE also allows end users to install and upgrade approved software without requiring administrative privileges.

What is happening?
The current version (7.1.150) of KACE systems management appliance supports Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and Mac OS X10.7.5, 10.8.3-10.8.5, 10.9.2-10.9.3. It has missed the latest upgrades 7.2.103, 8.0.320, 8.1.108 during the academic year 2017-2018.

To fully support Windows 10 and macOS High Sierra, the appliance must be upgraded to 8.1.108. The latest upgrades will be applied on September 12, 2018.

After the upgrades, the appliance will update the latest version of KACE agent on managed computers (on campus) automatically.

What does this mean for me?
It means that during the update you will not be able to access KACE in order to download new software.

What about my Gallaudet laptop?
Managed computers that are off-campus won't get the KACE agent update automatically. To enable the update to happen, the laptop needs to be connected to the Gallaudet network. You can do this either through Virtual Private Network (VPN) or by bringing the device onto campus and connecting to the network.

Once the device is connected, the update will automatically happen. However, it may take some time for KACE to scan the network, detect this device and then install the update. Be prepared to wait, especially if connected via VPN. If you want to push the update to be completed more quickly, follow these instructions to log into the KACE library and download the KACE agent version 8.1.108. Doing this should complete the update within 5 minutes (on-campus).

If you encounter issues with the KACE Agent update, please, submit a service desk ticket.
