Data Governance Committee

The purpose of the Data Governance Committee at Gallaudet University is to enhance our mission and values through improving information management. The committee will promote the sharing of business knowledge and best-practice data information systems and processes across units and divisions. The goal is to optimize information management. The committee will seek to improve the institutional quality of data and will promote a common understanding of the intended meaning of that data. The committee will work to make data available to appropriate people through well-defined and efficiently run processes.

The data governance committee’s charge is to:

  • Identify and resolve data quality issues
  • Provide initial and ongoing review, communication, and documentation of data used in business processes including:
    • data definitions
    • data warehouse elements
    • data security
    • business intelligence tools
  • Create standards and provide guidance concerning institutional data related to:
    • expanding access
    • improving quality
    • maintaining consistency
    • assuring security
    • improving business processes and information management 
  • Identify and recommend process improvements required for efficiency, data quality, and data transparency

  • Identify key values critical to data integrity including a cookbook with an institutional list of values and definitions
