Interim COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Leave Program (effective 5/17/2021)

Scope

This interim policy applies to regular status and extended temporary employees in all offices and divisions of Gallaudet University, unless specifically covered by collective bargaining agreements made between Gallaudet University and certified bargaining agents. Other temporary employees working more than 30 hours per week may also be entitled to paid leave under this policy.

Policy

This interim supplemental paid leave program has been established for the purpose of reducing the impact on employees directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and who are currently working on campus (University or Clerc Center).

Under this interim leave program, regular status and extended temporary staff, faculty, and teachers may request up to ten (10) days of paid leave per calendar year to be used for an approved COVID-19 related reason for absence, as listed below. Approved leave taken under this program provided in addition to the annual (staff), personal (teachers), and sick leave balance and will be paid in accordance with regularly scheduled work hours.

Other temporary employees (such as 120-day staff, long-term substitute teachers/aides or freelance interpreters) who work a regular schedule with a minimum of thirty (30) hours per week and who are currently working on campus (University or Clerc Center) may request up to five (5) days of paid leave per calendar year for an approved COVID-19 related reason for absence as listed below. Approved leave taken under this program will be provided in addition to the temporary employee’s sick leave balance and will be paid in accordance with regularly scheduled work hours.

Effective Date: May 17, 2021

 

Eligibility:
Regular Status and Extended Temporary Staff, Faculty, and Teachers who are currently working on campus

Other Temporary Employees (such as 120-day staff, long-term substitute teachers/aides or freelance interpreters) who work a minimum thirty (30) hours per week and are currently working on campus

 

Benefits:
Regular Status and Extended Temporary Staff, Faculty, and Teachers may request up to ten (10) days per calendar year for an approved COVID-19 related reason for absence (paid in accordance to their regular scheduled work hours).

Other Temporary Employees may request up to five (5) days per calendar year for an approved COVID-19 related reason for absence (paid in accordance to their regularly scheduled work hours). 

Note: Time off must be taken by day (not hours).  

 

Approved COVID-19 Related Reasons for Absence:

  • You are sick with COVID-19 or COVID-19 symptoms.

  • You are caring for a family member with COVID-19.

  • You require time off to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. 

  • You are recuperating from side effects of a COVID-19 vaccination. 

  • For only staff who are unable to work remotely: You are required to quarantine due to travel as mandated by DC law and the GU public health team.

**Please note if you are required to work on campus (unable to work remotely) and you were placed on a mandated quarantine by the contract tracing team, you will be placed on paid administrative leave (separate from the COVID-19 Leave).
