Academic Affairs Multicultural Curriculum Transformation Institute Speaker Series: Dr. Kirk VanGilder presents on Thursday, March 29, 2018.

Gallaudet University is one of 122 higher education institutions participating in the Interfaith Diversity Experiences and Attitudes Longitudinal Study (IDEALS). The IDEALS research team is a cooperative effort of North Carolina State University and the Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC). In fall 2015, First Year students were invited to participate in a survey to measure their experiences and attitudes about religious diversity as well as their expectations about what their campus experience would be like. In spring 2015, a second administration was made to provide a snapshot of First Year student changes. In 2019, a third administration will be given to capture these students at the four-year mark. Dr. VanGilder will present highlights from both the overall study data and the report specific to the Gallaudet and summarize what is currently in place for interfaith infrastructure.

Dr. VanGilder is an ordained United Methodist clergy person and has served as minister in Deaf churches in Baltimore and Pasadena, MD and campus minister to Gallaudet University from 1997-2002. Dr. VanGilder has traveled to Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Turkey to work with deaf community development and support.

Dr. VanGilder's presentation will take place on Thursday, March 29, 12:30–1:50 p.m. in JSAC, MPR. Interpreters will be provided.
