Academic Affairs Multicultural Organizational Development Speaker Series: Candas Barnes presents on Thursday, April 19, 2018

Candas Barnes will present “A Call to Community: Together We All Succeed - Multicultural Organizational Development and Curriculum Transformation Tools for Bringing Us Closer Together” on Thursday, April 19, 2018, 12:30–1:50 p.m., in JSAC, MPR.

Gallaudet University is making great strides in our goals and, like all other institutions of higher education, we are also facing some critical challenges. As we seek to embody President Cordano’s Living, Well-Being, and Belonging Initiative we can celebrate our commitment to be responsible citizens of Gallaudet. This brief presentation will examine the meanings of “community,” how we can continue to foster it together, and how we can ensure that everyone at Gallaudet feels their presence is woven into our tapestry. Together we will explore ways we’re already succeeding. We will also discuss strategies and principles and learn tools we can implement to capitalize on our successes and transform our opportunities for growth.

Candas I. Barnes, G-’08, has served the Gallaudet community in a variety of roles since 1987. Her passions include supporting students in being optimally successful and learning about others through focused questions and deep listening. Her non-profit organization, The Institute for Cross Cultural Communication (TheIC3.org), is committed to realizing a world where everyone has the freedom to effortlessly communicate with anyone they choose. Candas is currently a doctoral student studying Leadership and Change at Antioch University and anticipates graduating in 2021.
