Alim Chandani appointed interim director of GIEI

Alim Chandani, PhD ’13, has been appointed interim director of the Gallaudet Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute (GIEI). Dr. Chandani founded and led several entrepreneurial initiatives in New Delhi, India, including AccioMango, Pvt. Ltd., Access Mantra Foundation, and Centum-GRO Initiative. Together, these social ventures provided training, employment, and Deaf empowerment opportunities for thousands of Deaf citizens of India, and led to multiple legislative efforts, including one calling for official recognition of Indian Sign Language as the country’s 23rd official language. Dr. Chandani was also the founder of Global Reach Out Initiative, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C.

This is Dr. Chandani’s second “tour of duty” at Gallaudet. From 2009 to 2016, he was a Student Success specialist and peer mentor supervisor with the Office of Student Success. He also taught and co-taught social entrepreneurship and international business development courses in the Department of Business. His work led in part to the establishment of GIEI.

Dr. Chandani holds a bachelor’s degree in new media and e-business from Rochester Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in deafness rehabilitation and higher education studies/public service from New York University. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree at Gallaudet in 2013.
