Announcing the Death of Dr. Robert Carl Johnson, professor of mathematics 1973-1994.

Dr. Robert Carl Johnson, professor of mathematics at Gallaudet University from 1973-1994, passed away on December 16, 2017, at his home in Estes Park, Colorado, after a brief battle with esophageal cancer. He was 78. He was predeceased by his wife, Sandy.

After serving in the U.S. Army and receiving his doctorate from Oregon State University in 1969, Bob taught at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana before coming to Gallaudet. Bob served as Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science from 1980 until 1986.

Those of us who knew Bob will remember him as a forceful voice in Faculty Governance. He was part of the team that created the current Faculty Governance structure in the mid-eighties and was a strong, outspoken supporter of the Deaf President Now movement. He was also a superb teacher of mathematics, a great encouragement to many students. He was a kind, warm man, a great friend to many.

His sister Margit Johnson has requested that any memorial contributions in his name be sent to the Kiwanis Club. Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
