"Becoming a Homeowner" informational session for employees offered on February 19, 2019

*This session is offered for only Gallaudet University and Clerc Center employees (not including graduate assistants and student employees)*

SESSION DESCRIPTION
The seminar will give you an opportunity to get information on five strategies to help you succeed your journey in becoming a homeowner:

  1. Setting realistic goals - strategies on developing an action plan for homeownership such as down payment assistance, credit rebuilding, and debt reduction. 
  2. Basic of money management - create a realistic budget, track expenses and spending, spot early signs of credit problems and develop practical steps to prepare for your home purchase.
  3. Reviewing credit reports - learn everything first-time homebuyers need to know about credit reports, such as what mortgage lenders look for, how to correct inaccurate information, and how to rebuild your credit so that you can buy a house. 
  4. Managing credit and credit scores - understanding credit scores and use of credit cards is essential to achieving financial goals.
  5. Downsizing your debt - providing guidance in order to organize your personal finances so you can save money for the future while you pay off debt. Learn debt reduction strategies, how to use credit to your advantage, and how to create a debt repayment plan.
