Call for deaf artists; students and alumni preferred

Submission Form: Deaf Art Exhibition

This is a call for deaf artists who are students and/or alumni. We encourage deaf and hard-of-hearing artists to apply for a juried "Deaf Art Exhibition" of any art form.

Statement: This is an exciting competition to present awards to top five winning artists and will have their works published. A dynamic deaf art that captures the energy and spirit of Gallaudet University at this time especially under President Cordano's leadership.

Entry Form Deadline: March 8, 2018

Media and Size: All 2D and 3D are eligible. Work must be framed. Performance art, installation art, and video are not eligible. Work using materials that are hazardous to the health and safety of the public will be disqualified. Work must be new since January 2016. Work must not exceed 3 feet in any direction and weight can be up to 15 pounds.

Complete Entry Requires:

1)    Gallaudet student or alumni

2)    Complete online submission form

3)    Submit up to four works of art with title/year/medium/size, high image resolution (300 ppi)

4)    Submit photograph of the artist (300 ppi)

5)    Written Artist Statement (250 words)

6)    CV/Resume

7)    Work must be framed or installation-ready; sculpture will be displayed on a pedestal –

8)    Artist will pay their shipping & insurance expenses for their artwork to Gallaudet Museum and Gallaudet University will cover the cost of returning your work to the artist only

9)    Optional: ASL video artist statement (2-3 minutes in length), movie file (.mov or .mp4)

Submission for hand-delivered work(s): March 16-April 9, 2018

Deadline for receipt of shipped work(s): April 9, 2018*
*Shipment after April 10, 2018, will not be acceptable.

Deaf Art Exhibition Dates: April 19 - May 14, 2018

Opening Reception Date: April 19, 2018

Time: 3-5 p.m.

Venue: Gallaudet Museum, Gallaudet University, Deaf Art Show, Washington, D.C.
