Call for nominations: International Deaf Cultural Studies Research Award (Rachel Hartig Award for Research Excellence)

Rachel Hartig Research Excellence Award

The award: This award is designed to encourage and celebrate the production of noteworthy work in the field of international deaf cultural studies. Outstanding works of literary criticism, history, biography, as well as papers delivered at conferences, are acceptable entries. Preference is to be given to work related to Francophone areas and Hispanic Deaf Studies, but work focusing on any international group will be considered.

Nominees: The successful work may be created by a member of the Gallaudet University faculty, staff, administration, or graduate student body. The work of a Gallaudet University alumnus/a, visiting researcher or scholar may also be considered. Faculty teaching undergraduate courses are particularly encouraged to apply. Special attention will be accorded to manuscripts under consideration for publication by Gallaudet University Press or already published by the Press.

Criteria: Criteria for the award include innovation in scholarship, clarity of expression, and significance of the subject.

Deadline: Candidates may be nominated by any member of the Gallaudet academic community or self-nominate with two letters of support by March 1. 

The awardee will be chosen by an interdisciplinary screening committee that includes members of the World Languages and Cultures Department. Please send your nominations to Amanda.Holzrichter@gallaudet.edu.

Monetary award: A single recipient could receive an award of $800.  If there is a tie, two candidates could be selected and each would receive $400. The awardee(s) will give a short presentation of their work during the award reception event.
