Department of Public Safety

To the Gallaudet University Community,

As you may be aware, multiple First Amendment demonstrations are scheduled to occur in the District of Columbia this week, beginning today, January 5th  and continuing tomorrow January 6th.  While we do not anticipate disruptions, we expect an increased number of people gathering in and around Washington, D.C.

The anticipated overall impacts to the District include road closures and disruptions to businesses and government services located in the impacted area and are likely to resemble similar events that took place in November and December.

The Mayor's Office of the District of Columbia has also issued a statement in relation to the events taking place and can be found on the mayor's website at :

https://mayor.dc.gov/release/mayor-bowser-continues-preparation-upcoming-first-amendment-demonstrations

There does not appear to be any direct threats to any area around the Gallaudet campus you should continue to pay close attention to the local news and alerts from Gallaudet and AlertDC.

For your personal safety, we are also advising, due to the potential of possible violence, damage, and clashes that people avoid the areas around the demonstrations that are taking place around Capitol Hill, White House, Mall, and other immediate areas around those locations.

Thank you.
