DPS to relocate temporarily during renovation

February 21, 2020

Dear students, staff, faculty, and teachers:

The Department of Safety (DPS) office in Carlin Hall is being renovated between early March and early May. Here is what you need to know.

  • DPS will move out of Carlin Hall at the close of business on Friday, March 6.

  • DPS will relocate temporarily to two separate locations: MSSD and Benson Hall. Both locations will be open 24 hours per day, seven days per week. There will be signs to direct community members to these temporary locations.

  • DPS administrative staff will be located at MSSD. The Parking and ID division will be located in Benson Hall.

  • Benson Hall will be the main area for walk-in complaints or concerns, or requests for services. There will always be a DPS officer or supervisor on the premises.

  • The Parking and ID division also will be located in Benson Hall, and will be open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. They will handle parking permits and other parking-related matters, as well as all university ID matters.

  • There will be limited parking for community members at Benson Hall while they are making reports, obtaining ID cards, picking up or returning keys, etc.

  • All DPS contact information – telephone, videophone, email, text, and website – will remain the same.

DPS is scheduled to return to Carlin Hall on or about May 6. The new DPS office will be more open, welcoming, and accessible; make better use of space, and take advantage of new technology. There will be a dedicated area for the Parking and ID Division, as well as private offices and interview rooms.

DPS thanks the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center and the Gallaudet University Office of Residence Life and Housing for the use of their space, and for their flexibility as renovation plans evolved.
