Gallaudet professor's article wins top entry of the year for "Impact Ethics"

Dr. Teresa Blankmeyer Burke, professor of philosophy, had an article published in Impact Ethics, a Canadian-based discussion forum of and commentary on bioethical issues. The March 2. 2017, article, “Gene Therapy: a Threat to the Deaf Community?”, was the publication’s top entry of the year.

Burke was also featured in a Santa Barbara, California-based Pacific Standard article, “When Deafness is Medicalized: Inside the Culture Clash over Cochlear Implants.” Written by James McWilliams on January 5, 2018, Burke explains the risks of language deprivation to Cochlear Implant users that do not have the opportunity for bilingual learning of spoken English and American Sign Language.
