Gallaudet University Receives Grant Award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)

The Office of Sponsored Programs wishes to congratulate Dr. Poorna Kushalnagar, Principal Investigator, on her supplemental award from the National Institutes of Health in the amount of $187,476 for her project “PROMIS – ASL: Cognitive Ability and Cognitive Concerns Scales for Deaf Adults with Alzheimers Disease and Related Dementias”.

Summary of the Project

The availability of patient-reported outcome measures in ASL and English and such that is valid for users of accessible technology and services will provide important insights on improving prevention and treatment models that will lead to better personal and public health within the underserved DHH population.  Additional supplement funding was obtained to investigate Alzheimer's and dementia-related issues in the Deaf community.
