History Program announces Spring 2018 writing award offering $1,000 prize

The History Program announces the Spring 2018 Writing Competition for the best Undergraduate Research Paper in American History. A $1,000 prize is being given by the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865 on Awards Day for the best paper.

All entries must be on a Civil War topic but is open in terms of focus and area.  Winners in the past have written on music and culture of the antebellum South, the history of Confederate flags, African American Union soldiers, and the role of women during the Civil War.  Entries must be an original paper at least 1500 words in length written by an undergraduate student currently enrolled at Gallaudet University.
