IADES Fellowship Award now available for deaf woman doctoral students

The International Alumnae of Delta Epsilon Sorority (IADES), an organization composed of alumnae members of the same-named Gallaudet University sorority, encourages deaf women to aspire towards higher education and to strive for excellence in academic endeavors. The IADES Endowment Fund offers an IADES Fellowship Award to a deserving doctoral level recipient. The award check, intended for tuition costs only, will be made payable to both the award recipient and her college/university in January 2020. Applicants need not be studying at Gallaudet University.

Application Requirements:

Eligibility is determined on the basis of the applicant’s attainment of:

1. current enrollment in good standing in a doctoral level (PhD, EdD, MFA) program of studies; and

2. successful completion to date of 12 or more graduate level credits, and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (or better) for MA/MS and doctoral coursework.

The application process requires the following:

1. submission of a completed IADES Endowment Fund application form; 

2. submission of official transcripts of the applicant’s MA/MS and doctoral course 

3. submission of a copy of the applicant’s audiogram taken within the past 24 months, or 

4. a letter from a certified audiologist, primary physician, or other appropriate professional verifying the applicant’s hearing loss of 70 dB or higher in the better ear; and 

5. submission of two letters of recommendation and support:

    a. one from the applicant’s academic advisor or a professor in the applicant’s doctoral 
program who is familiar with the applicant’s academic performance and potential 
for continuing academic success, and

    b. one from a current employer or a deaf community leader describing the applicant’s 
character, aspirations, and abilities. 

All applications and supporting documents will be kept confidential. Semi-finalist applicants will be asked to submit an essay for final consideration.
