Gallaudet University, the world’s only liberal arts college focused on serving the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, is the host site of the tenth annual ColorFEST conference. This is a conference that is centered on the lives and experiences of deaf and hard-of-hearing youth and young adults who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ+) or as allies. It will be held on April 14-16, 2017, at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. We will have a full day of workshops on Saturday, April 15, 2017.
This year’s theme, "Color OUTside the Lines,” was selected to acknowledge and lift up the voices of those who may feel out of place because their experiences do not fit within pre-defined labels or expectations. Also, we are focusing on sharing information that may not be easily found in the regular classroom environment, with a particular focus on the needs and interests of LGBTQ+ people of color. Information is empowerment. Attendees at the ColorFEST 2017 Conference will be welcomed, affirmed, and celebrated for their full selves, including their multiple intersectional identities.
