Description
Come join Rosemary Johnson to learn how employment trends have changed drastically over the past decade as we enter the "Gig Economy" aka Freelancers/Self-Employment. It’s becoming more common to see freelance opportunities preferred over full-time positions. However, there’s more to being a freelancer than just flexible hours and self-employment. Most freelancers focus so heavily on their skills or assignments that the business side of their practice often falls through the cracks. In this workshop, participants will learn the basics about self-employment, business and finance when it comes to being a freelancer. By identifying as business owners and becoming strategic with taxes and business practices, freelancers can empower themselves and make decisions that improve their current and future careers.

This workshop is perfect for all academic disciplines - undergrad/graduate levels - to include interpreters, audiologists, mental health practitioners, artists, writers, digital media as well as business students and more!

Presenter Bio: Rosemary Johnson has been an interpreter and entrepreneur for seven years. While maintaining a full time freelance interpreting career, Rosemary also co-authored the book "The Interpreter's Quick Guide to Self-Employment" which is currently being used by several Universities nation wide, and founded Labyrinth LLC which provides resources for parents/educators working with children with special needs. Rosemary has spent the last six years researching, attending conferences, and implementing business/finance strategies, and is looking forward to sharing her knowledge with the community.
