Bummy

Description

Gerald “Bummy” Burstein, ’50 & H-’86, was one of the university’s best-known alumni. As a transfer student, he spent only three years on campus, but his association with Gallaudet spanned 71 years and nine university presidents. During this time, he led, served, advocated and contributed to our community in countless ways, including 30 years as a board member and president of the Gallaudet University Alumni Association. He understood well the importance of leadership and effective and inclusive community engagement. Bummy was a quintessential citizen of the Gallaudet community and the broader deaf community, leading by example and constantly encouraging others to be of service and to give back—values that he held deeply.

Gallaudet University and the Gallaudet University Alumni Association will celebrate Bummy’s life on Monday, December 3, 2018 at the Kellogg Conference Hotel. The doors to Swindells Auditorium will open at 10:30 a.m. and the one-hour program will begin at 11 a.m. A light reception will follow in Ballroom A/B. Tables will be provided for senior citizens. To request DeafBlind interpreting services or interpreting accommodations, please email both president.office@gallaudet.edu and gis.confirmations@gallaudet.edu by Tuesday, November 20.

The Kellogg Conference Hotel will offer a discounted room rate to people who come for the celebration of life. Double occupancy rooms are available for $99 per night plus tax from December 1 to 4. Go to this link to make advance reservations.
