Gallaudet Digest Submission Guidelines and Policies

The Office of University Communications developed this user guideline in response to many questions about the submission and editorial process. Please note that Gallaudet Digest submissions are subject to 48-hour approval, and we do not maintain Gallaudet Digest submissions outside of business hours or on the weekends. We reserve the right to edit all submissions in adherence to our editorial standards.

Create Announcement

Announcement Guidelines:

Below are guidelines for announcement submissions. Following these guidelines will make the process quicker and more efficient for everyone.

  • Titles for Announcements need to be written as an active sentence with a verb. (Example: “Intersectionality 101” workshop to be held April 1, 2019).
  • No exclamation marks or periods at the end of the headline.
  • The abstract (summary) is limited to only 200 characters and must be a full sentence (or two).
  • Focus on the five W’s (what, when, where, why, and who). Include all relevant information while keeping the post brief and to the point.
  • When attaching flyers, note that there is a 200-character limit for flyer descriptions, which are required for accessibility purposes.
  • Times need to be in a specific format. (Examples: midnight, 5 a.m., noon, 3 p.m.)
  • Dates need to be written out in full. (Example: March 15, 2019)
  • Announcements run up to five days only on, with exceptions made for important or time-sensitive events.
  • The first run date you choose will have the announcement show up under “Today’s Announcements”; the next four dates you choose would show up under “Previous Postings” on Please note that normally, we only run an announcement under “Today’s Announcements” once.

Create Event

Event Guidelines:

  • When you create an announcement, it does not automatically create an event posting on the calendar. You need to do that separately.
  • For recurring events, you will need to submit separate event items for each day. (Example: “Intersectionality 101” takes place December 1 and 3; submit two separate event items for December 1 and 3.)

Create Featured Photo

Featured Photo Guidelines:

  • Photos must be 848x477, cropped and resized to exactly those dimensions. Horizontal photos work best for this purpose.
  • Be sure to provide information about the photograph, such as who, what, why, where, when, and how.

All Gallaudet Digest submissions must be for on-campus or off-campus activities that are officially sponsored by a department or organization. Department news or news stories cannot be shared in the Gallaudet Digest; for that, please email
