  • Description

Family, friends, and colleagues from the World Languages and Cultures department gathered to raise a toast in celebration of Dr. Cristina Berdichevsky ("Birdy") on May 12, 2017. Berdichevsky was recognized posthumously as "Professor Emerita". Berdichevsky, who passed away in 2014, taught French and Spanish for twenty years. She was well known for her dedication to her students, for spearheading the Gallaudet international internship program, which to this date continues to open opportunities for Gallaudet students to work with deaf communities all over the world, and for her approach to teaching and learning.

Berdichevsky's emerita status was announced at the 2017 commencement ceremony. Her department thankfully acknowledges the contributions of everyone who contributed to granting her this well-deserved honor.
