Gallaudet University was invited to attend the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders (YALI)'s Academic and Leadership Partner Institutes annual retreat in Washington, D.C. YALI is a initiative of President Obama, and a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. This year, 700 young African leaders will take part of the six-week program at various universities. Gallaudet is the host site of a two-week pre-institute program, designed to prepare fellows who are deaf or hard of hearing to be successful in the program through ASL and deaf culture immersion.
