    Gallaudet's men's basketball head coach Kevin Kovacs, ’95 & G-’97, and three current Gallaudet students led Team USA to a dominating Under 21 World Deaf Basketball Championship performance, capping a 7-0 record with an 81-63 victory over Japan in the gold medal game on July 14, on Padden Court in the Gallaudet University Field House. Other teams in the eight-day tournament were Australia, Canada, Greece, Israel, Japan, Lithiania, Poland, Spain, and Ukraine.

    Junior Noah Valencia was a starter for Team USA, and sophomores Wilford Troup and Esau Zornova were reserves. Incoming freshman John Werner Jr. was also on the team. Team USA averaged 98.4 points per game and allowed only 42.6 points per game. Their average scoring margin was 55.9 points per game.
