The Burstein Center for Excellence in Leadership and Innovation (BCELI) sponsored a leadership training program in Nigeria that took place from June 23 through 27, 2019. The overall goal of the leadership training program was to empower Nigerian deaf women in order to bring about economic strength with the hope that the training will in turn lead to future financial wellbeing. About ninety women from across the country - with each state and the Federal Capital Territory represented! - were in attendance. Based on the pre-leadership training preparation that took place in the summer of 2018, the 2019 leadership training program covered the following topics:

    • Economic empowerment
    • Empowerment and advocacy
    • Entrepreneurship
    • Working with interpreters
    • Access to capital and appropriate technology for sustainable livelihood
    • Financial literacy/Budgeting
    • Human rights specifically for deaf women

A special thanks to the Nigerian Deaf Women, an affiliate of the Nigerian National Association of the Deaf, for their leadership and tireless work coordinating this amazing training.
