On May 14, 2019, the National Science Foundation-Gallaudet University Science of Learning Center, Visual Language and Visual Learning (VL2) hosted its fourth annual Knowledge Festival for more than 100 attendees at the Kellogg Conference Hotel. Through the lens of the theme, “The Creative Side of Discovery,” the VL2 Knowledge Festival showcased the Center’s scientific discoveries and transformative translation products from the entire previous year of work. The event featured VL2’s four National Resource Hubs, three laboratories, pioneering Ph.D. in Educational Neuroscience (PEN) Program (including students), and Cognitive Neuroscience Institute.

Dr. Ilaria Berteletti (left), director, Numeracy and Educational Neuroscience (NENS) Lab, demonstrates, with the help of a Knowledge Festival attendee, a simple reproduction of the MRI scanner used to run neuroscience studies. The attendee is laying on a bed with her head in an MRI coil. She can see what is presented on the screen through a mirror in front of her eyes, over the coil.
