  • Description

The Yerker Andersson Club is a new organization for undergraduate and graduate students, focused on fostering research and fellowship in Deaf Studies. Dr. Andersson, '60 & H-08, was a scholar and international leader. He passed away in 2016. Attendees at the organization's launch learned from Dr. Arlene B. Kelly, '77 & G-'92, chair of the Department of American Sign Language and Deaf Studies, that Dr. Andersson lead the creation of the department. Other fun facts: The Deaf Studies program is 25 years old! The ASL and Deaf Studies programs merged into a single department in 2002. Today, the department has 18 faculty members, several staff members, and over 30 majors and minors. If you're interested in majoring or minoring with us, see Tawny Holmes Hlibok for more information, or email her at tawny.holmes@gallaudet.edu.
