RSIA: Research Poster Printing Policies

The Office of Research Support and International Affairs (RSIA) offers free research-related  poster printing through the Office of the Provost to Gallaudet students, faculty, and staff under certain circumstances. It is not available for class projects or non-research topics such as educational or social events.

Please note that RSIA is not a “print shop” but a unit offering to share its resources. It generally takes 20-30 minutes to print a poster, and because RSIA doesn’t have a dedicated staff member or student worker to do this work, it takes away from the office’s primary tasks.

Before requesting poster printing for a research matter, please contact the individual in your department who is the “point of contact” for printing and have him or her work with RSIA to get your poster printed.

Poster Printing Requirements

To use the RSIA wide-format printer, the poster must be research-related and used for specific, documented events such as the Gallaudet Research Expo, research conferences, seminars, or symposiums. The service will be provided only for faculty and staff doing research, and for students who are conducting research as part of their degree requirement or for presentation at a conference. As stated above, RSIA will not print posters for class research projects. Posters of a general nature, such as promoting an activity or event, can be printed by Campus Activities.

Technical Details

Posters must be saved as high resolution PDFs only and will be printed at the dimensions of  36” x 42.” The file must be “ready to print” (properly formatted and scaled for an HP Designjet Z5400 printer). RSIA will not reformat files or reprint posters if there are any errors. Please ensure that all images are of a high quality. The color must be limited to 5% and the background primarily white. Do not use unnecessary background fills.

Assigned Department Staff

Department staff must coordinate poster printing in advance with RSIA by making an appointment. Requests for printing must  be submitted at least one week in advance of the event or due date. Requests will be reviewed by RSIA to ensure the poster design meets the necessary requirements. RSIA has the right to decline a printing job if these requirements are not met. NO ONE other than assigned department staff is allowed to use the printer. This individual will  bring a USB flash drive to print PDF posters for the department. Email susan.larrison@gallaudet.edu for an appointment.
