Dr. Crowe graduated from the University of Maryland - Baltimore County in 1987 with a BA degree in psychology and social work.  She graduated from Gallaudet University's MSW program in 1992.  In 2000, Dr. Crowe graduated from the University of Maryland at Baltimore with a PhD in social work.  Dr. Crowe's professional career primarily focused on mental health in the Deaf community.  She worked in multiple settings, including an inpatient psychiatric unit, community mental health agencies (outpatient services), and private practice.  While in her doctoral studies and afterward, she conducted research about various issues affecting Deaf and hard of hearing individuals, such as ASL-translated instruments, alcohol use, domestic violence, sating violence, mental health needs, and telemental health.

Dr. Crowe is a full professor in the social work department.  Her areas of expertise focuses primarily on mental health issues that affect Deaf and hard of hearing individuals, such as alcohol use, domestic violence, dating violence, mental health needs, and telemental health.  She holds advanced licensure in Maryland (LCSW-C) and in Washington, DC (LICSW).

Dr. Crowe primarily teaches research courses in the MSW program.  She has taught undergraduate and graduate students across the curriculum, including research and practice.

Dr. Crowe currently serves as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed social work journals and is a consulting editor for Health & Social Work.  She writes test items for the bachelor-level social work examination with Association of Social Work Boards.  She is currently a member of NASW's Legal Defense Fund.  Dr. Crowe coordinates a telemental health project with Arundel Lodge based in Edgewater, Maryland to provide telemental health services to Deaf and hard of individuals on the rural eastern shore of Maryland.
